Editor’s Review

This app is a simple demo of what the folks over at Valorem are producing – simply point a stereoscopic camera at someone, digitize and stream it, then render it as a 3D point cloud on the HoloLens.  Very awesome concept, and can’t wait until it’s available.

Publisher’s Description
“Help Me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re My Only Hope!” Do you remember that aha moment, when you saw Princess Leia projected as a hologram from R2-D2’s holographic projector? From science fiction of yesteryear to today, the crew at Valorem has been working on an innovative telepresence technology that is becoming a reality! We have produced a holographic streaming technology, which allows the likeness of a person to be captured using a stereoscopic camera as 3D point cloud data. The point cloud data is then streamed or “beamed” (for you Trekkies out there), across the Internet. The holographic stream is decoded and rendered via Microsoft HoloLens, providing a shockingly good representation of the sender’s likeness.

Please enjoy this app which demonstrates the HoloBeam technology and allows you the experience the functionality with your own eyes using pre-recorded data. The supported voice commands can be listed in the app by saying “show help”.

Please note: no droids were harmed during the development of HoloBeam.
