Editor’s Review

This is a promising teaching app to visualize the human cell. Lots of information about each part of the cell would make it a very informative app.  However, we found it very hard to use.  First of all, there is no menu or visible help section at first, so the uninformed user will be very puzzled.  Only by watching the YouTube video linked below do you learn the commands, but if you say “Help” you’ll finally get a popup menu with all the options.  Also, the info screens that display the educational notes seem like they are 6 inches from the user’s eye – way too close, and caused us eye strain.

Not a bad app overall, has some nice content, but needs polishing.

Criteria Notes Score
User Interface There is no user interface at first, leaving the user feeling very lost.  Once you know what to do, it’s ok. ★★★☆☆
Graphics/3D Modeling Quality The cell itself was very nicely model, but there was no movement of the components within the cell – something one might expect from a living organism. ★★★★☆
Idea Execution Good start, but some user interface issues made the experience a bit unpleasant. ★★☆☆☆
Amount of Content Seemed like a good amount of info is given to learn about cellular structures. ★★★★☆
Wow Factor This would be a really nice addition to a biology class – easy to visualize the cell. ★★★★☆
